Welcome to The Nugent Report Blog! This is the first of many blogs that will be posted to this website. Future blogs may cover virtually any topic in science, this includes health, nutrition, environmental science, behavioral science/psychology and any other topics in science that can affect human health.

The Nugent Report began as a monthly newsletter some 30 years ago. At that time The Nugent Report had doctors who were subscribers in 17 countries. They had to receive The Nugent Report by snail mail. The Nugent Report was a labor of love for me as I have always had a great desire, and derive great satisfaction from being able to inform and educate people with accurate and unbiased information about their health and the health of our planet. You can count on The Nugent Report website, blogs, and podcasts to follow this theme.

The great thing about the Internet is that anyone can write anything they want, and the bad thing about the Internet is that anyone can write anything they want. The Internet is a marvelous platform for the posting and exchanging of information all over the world and has been significantly responsible for an unprecedented growth of knowledge as scientists from every country can share information almost instantaneously. Science is now growing so fast that even some computers strain to keep up with it. Clearly, no human being can possibly keep up with all of the new advances in science and all of the new data which grows literally by the nano second all over our planet.

The Nugent Report will select information that is important for human health and/or the health of our planet, and objectively sort through the data to give readers short, simple and accurate answers to their questions and concerns.

I have been on the global lecture circuit for more than 20 years and regardless of country or culture the concerns are very nearly all the same and the frustrations in obtaining accurate information from what is now an impossible bank of data on the Internet is one of the greatest frustrations expressed to me by my audiences and through daily communications that I receive from countries all over the globe.

Objectivity does not come easy to humans. As a scientist I am reluctant to even attempt to draw conclusions without comprehensive objective data analysis, but here I will speculate that human beings have a built in genetic survival mechanism that causes them to draw conclusions as quickly as possible even if the data available is incomplete. I believe that one day we may find through the science of genetics that it is indeed a genetic program. In the meantime, I will talk about what we know.

I would make the analogy that the human brain is an organic computer that runs a variety of software programs with various default settings. In psychology we know that the human brain is a problem-solving mechanism, we know from numerous studies that the human brain defaults to drawing conclusions on any new situation as quickly as possible.

Our earliest hunter gatherer ancestors had to make snap judgments without knowing all of the facts because in many cases their very lives depended on it. If two groups of humans who had never encountered one another before were to meet, the leaders of each group would have to decide if the other group presented a threat or did the other group present an opportunity to trade?

The unknown can create fear and fear will be acted out differently by each person based on their psychological makeup and physical abilities. For some, fear will cause the flight response and for some fear will cause the fight response. Whether the leaders of the two tribes decide to run or fight, in both cases their decision is made without knowing the facts about the other group.

The people in the other group looked different, they dressed differently, they decorated themselves with ornaments differently and they spoke a language which could not be understood. They were different, therefore they might have been a threat. This is the origin of prejudice, to prejudge someone without knowing the facts about who they are and what they are. Prejudging someone based on appearance is perhaps the oldest prejudice there is.

Objectivity is about gathering all of the facts before making a decision. It is my belief that if we were somehow able to magically get everyone on the planet to think objectively, we would have a swift end to fear, hatred, prejudice and the suffering that results from those emotions. If people were able to think objectively our planet would be a cleaner, healthier and safer ecosystem.

The Nugent Report is all about objectivity. The promotion of a particular product, agenda, or ideology is not what this report is about. So, in future blogs and podcasts, expect reporting without bias, without prejudice, to give you the most accurate information so that you, personally, can make the best decisions for your health, the health of those you love and the health of our planet. For me this is still a labor of love and I look forward to future communications to all of you through The Nugent Report.

Una introducción a El Reporte Nugent

Como científico soy reticente a siquiera tratar de llegar a conclusiones sin un análisis de datos objetivo e integral, pero aquí especulo que los seres humanos han construido un mecanismo de sobrevivencia genética que los empuja a llegar a conclusiones tan rápido como sea posible, incluso si la información es incompleta. Creo que algún día vamos a encontrar a través de las ciencias genéticas que hay un programa genético. En tanto, voy a hablar de lo que sabemos.

Yo haría una analogía de que el cerebro humano es una computadora orgánica que corre una variedad de programas de software con varias configuraciones preestablecidas.
